The Limits of Pay: What Really Drives Commitment, Loyalty and Performance

In a competitive labor market, it is tempting to believe that higher pay solves engagement and retention challenges. It does not, at least not sustainably. In this session, we will explore why compensation is a short-term motivator at best, why Total Rewards must be fair and consistent rather than flashy, and how lasting commitment can be built through shared purpose, reciprocal trust, and the mindset of making a living together.

Drawing on lessons Wavetronix has learned over decades of growing as a local Utah company, we will share practical insights on what has worked, what required adjustment, and what it takes to build an employer value proposition rooted in fairness, partnership, and long-term trust.
